The right way from VS2005 to VS2008?

Hello NG,

I now have the ISO image of VS2008 on my (external drive) :-)
Now I am thinking of the right way to go from VS2005 to VS2008.

Currently I have VS2005 prof german installed.
For a parallel installation I don't have enough room on my system.
Also at the moment only the english version of VS2008 is available and later
on I want to switch over to the german version as soon that is available.

What would be the best way to handle my needs?
A) make room on the harddrive for a parallel installation?
B) Uninstall VS2005 (what and in wich order do I have to uninstall?) ?
C) Wait till the german version is available and then B ?
D) ???

Any hints, suggestions and links to this subject are very welcome!

Regards
Rainer Queck

I'd take option C - there's little point in going through a reasonable
long installation, then having to uninstall everything and install
again.

Hi Jon,

thanks for your comment which leaves me with two more questions:

Option C includes option B.
Is there a HowTo for switching to VS2008 by uninstalling VS2005 available
some where?
When (approximately) will VS2008 german be available?

Regards
Rainer

Well, not so much the VS2008 side - that's irrelevant really - but it
sounds like you just need an "uninstalling VS2005" guide. I'm afraid I
don't know of one, but hopefully Google will help...

I think I heard talk of January, but I'm not sure.

Since you have an external drive, have you considered using Virtual PC
and installing VS2008 on that?  That way, you can begin using it
without having to uninstall your 2005 installation.  Plus, you
wouldn't have to wait for the german version to begin using it.

Just a thought.

In general a good thought ;-)
I actually have a VM runing with VS2008.
But... for the project I am currently working on the VM is too slow :-(

Likely the VM isn't the issue.

If you haven't enough space for VS2008 and VM is too slow then I'd guess
your computer is quite old and you would need a new computer before you'd be
happy with performance, even without a VM.
